Then transported to a magical place called Castaway Island

30 °C

At crack of dawn the next day we arrived at Auckland airport to catch our Fiji airlines flight to Nadi in Fiji

It was a three hour flight, a bit turbulent at times, but eventually arriving at Nadi ( pronounced Nambi) where we were whisked away to Denaru harbour, to pick up our boat to take us to the island

Arriving to a host of Fijian islanders singing a welcome song, we landed and were given a refreshing drink and taken to our Bure to begin our island adventure

Unfortunately 1 day into our stay on the island we received the devastating news that Dave's father had tragically passed away, so we are immediately making our way back to the UK.

First few days in the land of the Kiwi

Meeting up with friends

sunny 18 °C

So once we had arrived at the hotel and freshened up, we thought it would be a good idea to try to stay awake as long as we could to acclimatise to our new time zone, so we caught the hotel shuttle down to the harbour quay, and jumped on a ferry over to Devonport and climbed a small extinct volcano (as you do!!!) to get to the top, which gave us fantastic views of the Auckland skyline

After which we grabbed a meal in a charming, rustic little restaurant, caught the ferry back, both of us nearly falling asleep in our laps! We got back to the hotel and crashed out til the next day.

After a sumptuous brekkie we met up with our friends Louise and Duncan, who very kindly showed us around the city, finishing off at a contemporary restaurant overlooking the docks

The next day in Auckland we decided to treat ourselves to a Skytower experience, no, not the jumping off, but just a leisurely lunch in th 360 deg restaurant, where your view changes every few minutes, a great way to spend a few hours.

The journey!

We knew it was going to be long, but hey it seemed never ending!

So once we boarded the flight, the glass of bubbly came round, we had our own little booths next to one another and things were looking "peachy"

And after a lovely meal, a good film and a few hours shut eye the first 11 hours didn't go too bad! We arrived at Hong Kong airport a little jaded but after a lovely shower in the lounge, all we could do was wait out the next 8 hours for our connecting flight!

So we then boarded the next flight for a repeat of the same 11 hours, eventually arriving at Auckland around 1.00pm, and luckily all our luggage had followed us, we were then sheparded thru customs where they asked to check our walking boots, which were then promptly taken away and washed and then given back to us!

We arrived at Heathrow last night, and stayed at the Radisson Blu, so as to have a stress free start to our journey to New Zealand, thought I would just start our blog off here with a couple of pics. Our flight is due to take off in a couple of hours, so we are just chillin in the Lounge.
